Recently, political commentators such as Sarah Palin and Investors Business Daily, have leveraged Deflate-Gate to analogize on the testicular robustness of politicians on issues ranging from foreign policy to fiscal responsibility. Political timidity is not uncommon and as we rapidly approach another Presidential election, it will be interesting to see if the GOP adopts Milquetoastianism as standard operating procedure.
It was nearly four years ago when the Occupy movement architected Obama’s 2012 re-election platform, adopting class warfare and Nanny statism as its central theme. Ironically, they launched the campaign against Free Enterprise on Constitution Day. At precisely the same time, the visionary Congressman Rohrabacher submitted House Resolution H.RES.422, promoting greater awareness of Capitalism. This bill clearly outlined the vast societal benefits gained through economic freedom. It could easily have been the foundation for a salient distinction and powerful rebuttal to Obama’s Socialist journey.
Sadly, not a single, freedom loving lawmaker stood up to support the mantle of freedom by signing on to co-sponsor the bill. The resolution died in committee, portending the Republicans death in the 2012 election for not clearly articulating the stark dichotomy between freedom and oppression; a dichotomy which was easily and abundantly supported by historical and contemporary facts.
The questions now become, will the GOP re-flate their …whatevers…and march into the 2016 campaign on a righteous platform of free enterprise? Or…will they wither to Hillary Clinton, who’s building a platform on class warfare, and no doubt some re-monikered GOP assault on women, while maintaining popularity as a struggling commoner…with multiple houses and multiple millions of dollars?
Let’s hope for the former. The latter will be too…deflating.
